Senior Software Engineer

SAN FRANCISCO, CA
FULL-TIME

Trustle’s mission is to give all parents the confidence and capacity to create the best environment for their child. We believe that there is no job that is simultaneously more rewarding and challenging than being a parent. Over the last few years, our understanding of child development has dramatically increased; at the same time, we are more disconnected from our extended families and support systems. Trustle is creating the 21st-century support system for parents – parallel to the pediatric system – for parents to take action on their child’s cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral development.

We’re a small team that takes collaboration and each other’s voices very seriously. Our mission is to support all parents in the crucial role of raising a child. It is therefore critical that our team is representative of the wider community and we place significant emphasis on ensuring diversity in our team and inclusion in our culture.

We were part of Y Combinator’s W20 batch and are backed by leading US and European VCs. We want to create an environment in which we can all be our best selves at work; use our strengths to take Trustle forward, and learn and develop our own skills. We want to have fun while working hard to do impactful things that we’re proud of – we believe it’s possible to do both.

About the Role

As a senior full-stack engineer, you’ll jump into our JavaScript stack as the third engineer on the team. You’ll play a crucial role in defining our early software infrastructure and architecture choices. You should have a strong background in software engineering fundamentals as well as a track record of shipping real products. Ideally, you have several years of web and mobile development experience and you’re comfortable across a variety of tools.

You love setting up infrastructure from scratch and maintaining a modern web stack, but you’re ready to dive into different parts of the platform whenever necessary. You like to follow good development practice and put a priority on making sure you and the rest of the team write well-maintainable code, but you’re enough of a hacker to move quickly when warranted. You’re comfortable managing DevOps where needed.

You thrive working in a fast-paced early-stage environment. Most importantly, you’re excited about making an impact on child development at scale.

Required Experience

  • Full-stack JavaScript development experience, including Node.js and ideally React/React Native; other stacks (e.g. Rails, Flask/Django) are a plus
  • Mobile app development experience, with React Native and/or native iOS (ObjC/Swift) and Android (Java/Kotlin)
  • Experience managing web infrastructure on Google Cloud or AWS
  • Comfortable with multiple programming languages, including some lower-level ones and the performance implications of your code at a systems level
  • Familiar with at least one scripting language (ideally Python or maybe Ruby)
  • Some familiarity managing database systems

Desired Experience

  • Rudimentary design skills or some experience using basic design tools (Photoshop, Sketch, Figma)
  • Experience working with data-heavy applications
  • A basic understanding of machine learning systems or a background in applied mathematics and being comfortable with linear algebra
  • Experience writing high-performance, parallelized code
  • Experience managing business analytics from query to visualization
We look for candidates who
  • Communicate clearly
  • Take the initiative
  • Balance big-picture perspective with attention to detail
  • Take responsibility for their work
  • Are interested in the mission of Trustle
  • Have something to teach us
Here are some reasons to join us
  • Part of a new team with the chance to have a big voice and big impact
  • Meaningful work supporting child development
  • Opportunity for growth alongside an accomplished team
  • Lots of opportunities for ownership, building large features end-to-end
  • Consumer product with fast iteration cycles means you can have a big impact in a short time
